Regulated Fishing Areas in Oahu

  • Waikiki-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area

During odd-numbered years, from January 1 to December 31, you cannot fish in this area. This means that the years like 2013 and 2015 are closed fishing seasons. You can start fishing during even-numbered years like 2014 and 2016.

  • Coconut Island – Hawaii Marine Laboratory Refuge

There are no closed fishing periods on this area because the place is protected from fishing. Thus, you should avoid getting on the refuge area when you are fishing to avoid problems.

  • He’eia Kea Wharf

The area has no closed fishing periods but you should take caution in fishing as there are rules on how you should fish. You cannot fish with a line with two hooks or more. You also cannot catch crabs with nets with diameters of two feet or more.

You should also take care in bringing hand nets for catching shrimps as the net should not exceed three feet in any dimension. But aside from that, you can freely take any legal sized fish in the area.
